“Hi, Steve.”

“Wow. What a week. Thought I better come tonight and talk. Lots of changes in my life, and I’m not sure how to handle them.

Broke up with my girlfriend. She didn’t take it well. Pretty mad about the whole thing. Guess I can’t blame her, I didn’t handle myself very well. I got uglier than I wanted. I probably should apologize, but I don’t think I should see her. The more I think about it, the more I realize what a bad influence she is. I always seem to do the stupidest things when she’s around.

Of course, it’s my fault – my actions belong to me – but when I’m making these life changes and she’s not, we just don’t have much in common. I want to spend more time with my family and she wants to send my kids away. I want to be sober and she still wants to party. Guess it was just time to part paths.

And speaking of family, the kids and I are getting along great. We actually seem to be building a relationship. It feels good. It feels right. I never could have done it without Anne. She’s great, but I worry about her. She’s recently lost her husband and is having a hard time. I’ve helped her some and it feels great to be in a helping position rather than always being the ‘someone’ who needs help. I need to think about my feelings for her. I think I may like her a lot.

I’ve been sober for a while now. I like it and have no plans on breaking my sobriety streak. With the help of my Higher Power, I know I can do it. With that I pass.”
